Office 365 – Why Your Business Should Make the Switch Today
Comunet have always been proud advocates for cloud computing, but what gives us the greatest sense of satisfaction is seeing how the cloud can deliver benefits to our clients in their day-to-day work. Microsoft’s Office 365 is a great example of this. It is hard to imagine a workplace computer these days without Microsoft’s flagship programs such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint (just to name a few). The introduction of Office 365, however, changed the way that we access and work with these applications. By providing their Office suite on the cloud, Microsoft opened up new possibilities for workplaces. In this post, we want to talk about some of these possibilities and why your organisation should make the switch to Office 365 today.
One of the primary reasons why we encourage our clients to shift to Office 365 is the suite’s ability to foster greater collaboration among team members. Before the introduction of this cloud service, Microsoft’s products were essentially restricted to the individual computers on which they operated. While it was standard practice for organisations to equip each of their employees with an Office-equipped computer, if two or more employees wanted to work on a document or spreadsheet together, that file would have to be sent from one computer to another. At best, these employees could huddle around the same computer, but this was certainly far from the ideal solution!
The great benefit of Office 365 is that it removes this restrictive one-computer-collaboration model. By having Microsoft Word and Excel available in the cloud, employees can now work on files that are not stored on one individual computer, but accessible through any computer (or any device) with an internet connection. As such, a team of employees can work simultaneously on one individual document, but from their own individual computers. Office 365 programs offer features such as Recent Activity panels and real-time chat functionality, to ensure that all team members are aware of the changes that are being made and discuss the next steps that need to be taken.
Another benefit of Office 365 is that organisations can gain access to the latest innovative products developed by Microsoft. A recent example is Microsoft Teams, which was launched in March 2017. Teams provides a workplace with a centralised chat platform, allowing employees to seamlessly communicate and share ideas. You can even work on documents directly inside the Teams window. Another great example is Office Delve, which helps you to find information and documents that are relevant to you. This platform is underpinned by Microsoft’s Office Graph, which tracks the documents you access most frequently to ensure that these files are made available to you as easily as possible.
Finally, Office 365 can be accessed from virtually any device. Whether you are using a tablet computer or a smartphone, you will be able to download the mobile app version of Word, Excel and other programs. These programs can then be linked to your business’ Office 365 account, allowing you to access and work on your files when you are out of the office. Furthermore, Microsoft have ensured that these apps are not just available on their own mobile devices, but compatible with iOS and Android platforms.
In conclusion, there are many benefits when organisations make the switch to Office 365. We can certainly advocate for this product, given that Comunet are Office 365 users and have helped many of our clients migrate to this platform as well. If you would like to discuss further about how Office 365 can help you, we would welcome the opportunity to meet with you. Contact us today to find out more.
